Skepticism

All of us have expressed some skepticism in our life. In the Bible, "doubt" is often associated with a lack of faith or trust in God, and can be expressed through words like "unbelief," "hesitation," "questioning," or "not believing." Doubt is not always evidence of a lack of faith.

We can discuss skepticism by exploring passages that portray doubt, like the story of "Doubting Thomas," and by examining how faith and belief are fostered through both direct experience and the word of God. John 20:24-29 NIV

The Gospel of John famously depicts Thomas, one of Jesus' apostles, refusing to believe in the resurrected Jesus until he could see and touch the wounds from the crucifixion. However, they also point out that Jesus ultimately grants Thomas the opportunity to see and touch, showing that faith can be strengthened by direct experience.
